Power Rankings-Week1

1. Pistons (2-0): A dominant first week keeps them at the top. Dave Markman is making his case for MVP but where has Bloomdahl been? They need him to win it all

2. Kings (2-0): A very good first week, considering they didn't have both of their top 2 picks either game. Still, they can make a statement on Tuesday night versus the Pistons

3. Sixers (1-1): A big win on opening night is enough to move them up. They played the Pistons tough but couldn't pull it out. Wait for this team to develope some chemistry

4. T'Wolves (1-1): This is an ackward team without a real identity yet. They could easily be 2-0 but just as easily be 0-2. The verdict is out on them at the moment

5. Pacers (0-2): Tough week for the expansion franchise but things still look bright. Matt Troum gives them hope and IF Marc Rolls shows up, they are very dangerous

6. Nuggets (0-2): 4 wins in their last 27 games. That says it all.

MATCHUPS

6:30-Nuggets vs Sixers: In what might be the lowest scoring game of the season, the 1-1 Sixers face the worst franchise in history on Tuesday night. Yes, the trouble has continued for this poor Nuggets team early on this summer with a blowout loss, and a 1 point heartbreaker. Things just don't seem to go right for this squad. Tonight won't get any better versus a Sixer squad led by Alex Ianone and Carmen Freda. Both guys are big bodies who like to dominate in the paint. With no Ed Paone, the Nuggets need Bill Krzyk to show and dominate. He has the capability to be one of the league's best, and Udani will need it. Unfortunately for all you Nugget fans out there this game will not be close, as the Nuggets set a new record for lowest points in a single game.

Prediction: Sixers 53-Nuggets 29

Players of the Game: Alex Ianone-Sixers; Sean Fenton-Nuggets

Stat of Game: Alex Ianone outscores entire Nugget team 32-29

7:30-T'Wolves vs Pacers : This has the makings of a great game with both teams clawing for better position in the CAL Standings. The T'Wolves had a rollercoaster first week, dropping a heartbreaker to the Kings and winning a stunner over the Nuggets. As I said in Power Rankings, this team does not have a real identity yet and we do not know if they deserve to be 2-0 or 0-2. Hopefully tonite we will get a better indication. Speaking of teams without identities, the Pacers are the other team in the CAL missing one too. They lost two tough games, blowing leads in both. Matt Troum is the league's leading scorer and looks to prove former captain Joe Salvia should have drafted him number 1 overall. Initially, I felt the Pacers would have the upper hand in this matchup, but after thinking it through for a while, the Pacers have had a lot of trouble with strong big men. Bill Stutzman is the key in this game and there is no reason to believe he won't have another solid preformance tonight

Prediction: T'Wolves 60-Pacers 58

Players of the Game: Bill Stutzman-T'Wolves/Matt Troum-Pacers

Stat of Gane: Bill Stutzman records his third straight double-double (18-12), Matt Troum scores 28 points along with 6 threes

8:30-Pistons vs Kings: Any time there is a game between number 1 and number 2, it will be the game of the night. At the top as usual are the Pistons led by Dave Markman. Markman has had a brilliant season thus far, leading all captains in scoring (26ppg) and is second in the league in scoring to Matt Troum. He has had success too because of the play of John Snyder. The number 2 overall pick has justified his spot with back to back 20 point efforts. He is fourth in the league in scoring with 20 ppg. He takes a lot of pressure off Markman and allows the Pistons to continue their lethal attack. But the Pistons will have their hands full with the suprise team in the league: the Kings. The Kings have quietly put two solid wins together and look to make it three. They have not had Brandt and George at a game together so look out if both show up tonite. As for me, I am making my predicition on the hunch that both guys will be in uniform tonite. While many people have the Kings as heavy underdogs, this has the makings of an upset. Here it is, my first upset special of the season, The Kings will be in first place after tonite's gamel.

Prediction: Kings 69 Pistons 65

Players of the Game: John Snyder-Pistons/ Brandt Heininiger-Kings

Stat of the Game: Snyder breaks 30 point barrier for first time in career, Kings put 5 players in double figures
